My Story

As we approach the Christmas season, we wanted to let you know of an enterprise that is very close to our hearts: a movement of kindness that encourages the spread of festive goodwill, aiming ultimately to bring an end to homelessness.

Social Bite’s Mission

Beginning as a small cafe in Edinburgh, Social Bite have become a major employer of homeless people, as well as the largest provider of freshly made free food in the UK to those in need. Their Edinburgh cafe is very dear to our team - we appreciate their vital mission as much as we do their excellent sandwiches!

Cask 88 will be donating a portion of its sales in December to Social Bite’s festival of kindness campaign, and we’d love for you to get behind it too.

Festival of Kindness

Christmas is going to be strange this year for all of us. But for homeless people and families, the pandemic has made their situation particularly desperate. Thousands of people in Scotland and all over the UK will spend Christmas on the streets – cold, hungry and lonely. Thousands of children will find themselves in temporary emergency accommodation or without food on the table over the festive period. Social Bite is planning to do more than ever to support them throughout the festive season.

Social Bite aims to provide accommodation, support and 250,000 food and essentials packs to homeless people over winter. This brings their distribution of emergency food packs and essential items to over an enormous 1 million, since the pandemic began.

What can I do to help?

Your donation can help provide shelter, support and food to homeless and vulnerable people across the UK. Just £5 can buy a homeless person a Christmas dinner; £20 could provide them with a bed and support for the night; £250 is enough to provide 3 months gas and electricity for a homeless person moving into a new flat.

Please consider paying it forward to homeless and vulnerable people this year, especially given the difficult year we have had, and the challenging winter to come. Your valuable support is more important now than ever.

We want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and healthy festive season!
